Spyglass™ IR3-H2 Flame Detector

The Spyglass™ IR3-H2 flame detector from Teledyne Gas and Flame Detection is designed to provide rapid and reliable detection of “invisible” hydrogen gas fires, as well as fires involving other substances such as ammonia and silane. This detector is specifically engineered for applications in the energy transition and hydrogen industries, where the risk of these types of fires is heightened.

The IR3-H2 utilizes advanced triple-wavelength infrared (IR3) technology to analyze the absorption of radiation caused by gases in the atmosphere, enabling it to distinguish real fire signatures from background interference. This triple IR design offers industry-leading false alarm immunity, ensuring the detector can perform reliably even in challenging environments and adverse climates.

One of the key features of the Spyglass™ IR3-H2 is its onboard video capability, available in both colour and near-infrared options. The near-infrared video is particularly useful for visualizing hydrogen fires, which are often nearly invisible to the naked eye. The video captures one minute before the alarm and up to three minutes after, providing valuable information for remote confirmation of fire situations, assessing fire progression, and guiding suppression efforts.

The Spyglass™ IR3-H2 is housed in a robust 316L stainless steel enclosure, meeting IP66/IP68 and NEMA 250 6P protection ratings for durability in harsh industrial environments. It offers improved optical flame detection capabilities with quicker detection times and better performance over extended distances compared to traditional point gas detectors.
