Distillery installs MX43 control panel paired with two CTX300 gas detectors

Posted by Rhys Redrup
Introduction

A long-standing leader in gin production, this distillery has a rich heritage dating back to 1761. As the longest-operating gin distiller, it produces 40% of the gin consumed in the UK, making it the second-largest gin producer globally. The distillery has been recognised for its exceptional quality, winning the prestigious International Spirits Challenge Gin Producer of the Year award multiple times since 2015.

This site is also home to a premium gin portfolio crafted under the expertise of Master Distiller Joanne Moore, whose innovative approach has played a key role in the resurgence of gin in recent years. Moore’s philosophy of ‘mindful innovation’ blends traditional craftsmanship with modern versatility, attracting a new wave of gin enthusiasts.

Beyond its own brands, the distillery collaborates with leading retailers to create private label gins, supported by a dedicated Spirits Solutions team. It remains at the forefront of the industry with advanced bottling and logistics capabilities, offering a diverse range of high-quality white spirits at various price points and formats. The distillery continues to set the standard in both craftsmanship and innovation, cementing its place as a global leader in the spirits industry.

What was installed?

The distillery employs an MX43 control panel paired with two CTX300 gas detectors to monitor ethanol leakage in an underground catchment tank. These gas detection heads are strategically placed to ensure any potential leaks are detected promptly.

If a leak is identified, the system triggers an immediate shutdown of the distillery’s power, specifically cutting off the pump and float operations. This automatic response is designed to prevent the further spread of ethanol and minimise the risk of hazards, ensuring a safe working environment.

Conclusion

The distillery team stated that the system has “given us safety if we have an unknown alcohol leak into our underground tank.” This highlights the crucial role the MX43 control panel and CTX300 gas detectors play in providing peace of mind.

With the system in place, the distillery can quickly detect any unforeseen alcohol leaks, ensuring timely shutdowns and preventing potential hazards.

“We have had the pleasure of working with Rockall Safety, and we can confidently say that their expertise in gas detection is unparalleled. Their team demonstrates an impressive depth of knowledge about the various gases and detection technologies, ensuring that we have the right solutions tailored to our specific needs,” said Simon Adams (Distillery and Utilities Maintenance Manager).
